Diplomats travel to Hainan to visit detained fishermen (24-01-2005) BEIJING — Representatives of Viet Nam’s Consulate General in Guangzhou province arrived in Hainan on January 21 to visit Vietnamese fishermen detained by the Chinese. In addition, they held a session with concerned Chinese agencies to discuss issues related to Chinese coast guards killing eight Vietnamese fishermen on January 8. The men were killed while lawfully fishing in a common fishing ground in the western area of the demarcation line in the Bac Bo (Tonkin) Gulf. Latest reports say the Chinese have treated all eight detainees well and the two fishermen that were injured have recovered. NA chair travels to China to boost ties

NA chair travels to China to boost ties (09-04-2007) Ha Noi — National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong left for an official visit to China yesterday at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Wu Bangguo. This is the first official visit abroad since Trong took up the chairmanship of the NA. Trong will be in China until Sunday. Trong’s visit follows an earlier visit to China by Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh and a corresponding visit to Viet Nam by Chinese Party General Secretary Hu Jintao to boost bilateral co-operation. The PM noted the encouraging development of Việt Nam-Indonesia ties, with US$6.5 billion in trade between the two countries in 2017. Indonesia has at least 70 investment projects in Vietnam worth more than $500 million; however, PM Phúc said there is still great potential to grow the investment partnership. Nha Trang-Phan Thiết Highway to cut travel time

Photo for illustration. -- VNA/VNS Photo HÀ NỘI – The Project Management Board number six under the Directorate for Roads of Việt Nam has asked the transport ministry to approve the construction of Nha Trang- Phan Thiết Highway. Of the more than VNĐ27.84 trillion (US$1.24 billion) investment for the project, about VNĐ9.28 trillion ($416 million) will come from the official development assistance (ODA) and the remaining VNĐ18.55 trillion ($ 824 million) will be funded by investors under a build-operate-transfer contract. The private investors hope to have their investment returned within 21 years, with the imposition of toll starting from VNĐ1,500 per kilometre. The toll will be increased by 12 per cent every three years.
