Traditional market renovation still face challenges

The project, initiated by municipal authorities, aims to build or renovate traditional markets across the city into trading centres to meet consumers’ demand as well as hygiene and safety standards. However, Long Biên, like many other districts, is facing many difficulties in the transition. Nguyễn Thế Trọng, who manages four markets in Long Biên District’s Ngọc Lâm Ward, told Thời báo Kinh tế Việt Nam (Vietnam Economic Times) newspaper that a traditional market needed to meet at least 10 criteria to be recognised as modern and civilised market. APEC confab tackles trade, market access (27-02-2006) HA NOI — As part of the ongoing APEC meetings in Ha Noi, the APEC Group of Service (GOS) held a conference last Saturday focusing on supporting member nations negotiate trade, services and market access with the World Trade Organisation (WTO). Other than the crucial issue of market access, experts at the conference also discussed capacity building measures for nations planning to join WTO, and rules and regulations required by developing countries in WTO negotiations, GOS Chairwoman Rosanna Law said.
