Gender-neutral toilets at Brisbane high school cause outrage
In a Queensland first, the all-new $80 million Fortitude Valley State Secondary College will not separate boys and girls’ bathrooms. Instead, the Department of Education confirmed the school would be fitted with self-contained gender-neutral cubicles and shared basin areas. The only exception is the change room, which will have two male and female toilets. Those toilets won’t open until later in 2020, but year 7 students starting next month will have access to 12 lockable, self-contained gender-neutral bathrooms. The decision has not been taken lightly by parents and experts who have slammed the move as “ridiculous”. College Football Playoff rankings historically dominated by same teams; see where LSU ranks
The more things change, the more they stay the same. That's especially true when it comes to the College Football Playoff. Since the new system began in the 2014 season a separate rankings have been issued for the second half of the season -- with the top four heading to the College Football Playoff semifinals. While that system shows constant change throughout the 25-team poll, a deeper look gives a glimpse into just how little parity there's been at the top-end of the college football landscape over the past half-decade. Can't see the graphic below? click here. Through 32 weeks of the poll, there have only been five teams to reach the No. 1 spot of the rankings -- the most recent addition being Ohio State, which nabbed the top spot in the first edition of this season's rankings. A staggering 84% of the other 31 weeks saw the No. 1 ranking held by either Alabama or Clemson. The Crimson Tide have taken that spot 18 times, Clemson eight times. With first CFP rankings out Tuesday, it’s time for the selection committee to rise to the occasion
You’re part film critic, part deep analytical expert and part fan.Being on the College Football Playoff Selection Committee is a combination of all those things — and more.So says Steve Wieberg, who served on the 15-person committee during its first four years, 2014-17. Wieberg, a former writer at USA Today, was the “media” representative on the group that includes former coaches, sitting and former athletic directors and others from more eclectic backgrounds, such as former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, a big fan but one who never played the game.Neither did Wieberg, for that matter. But it didn’t keep his voice from being heard in the room.“First, they give you an incredible amount of information — more than any one person could ever possibly use,” Wieberg said. “But each person is allowed to use that information however he or she sees fit and to make your opinion known.”That diversity, Wieberg added, is what really … [Read more...] about With first CFP rankings out Tuesday, it’s time for the selection committee to rise to the occasion

Nick Saban says he doesn’t know Alabama’s CFP rank; his memory of 2011 LSU game? ‘We lost.’
Alabama has sat atop the College Football Playoff rankings more than twice as often as any other school. But don't expect Nick Saban to weigh in on whether he feels slighted by this year's opening results. Don't expect any answer at all, in fact, because he'll tell you he hasn't even seen them. "I didn’t look at them yet, so I’m not sure," a smiling Saban said during an interview with ESPN's Tom Rinaldi. "I’ve been working today, not reading the paper. So, I don’t really know. But can you enlighten me a little bit on what’s going on?”Rinaldi: "You don't know where you rank?"Saban: "No."Whether Saban's blinders are real or simply intended as a statement to his players, his Alabama squad faces off with LSU on Saturday in the highest-billed matchup between the two teams in eight years. The Tigers head to Bryant-Denny Stadium at No. 1 in the Associated Press rankings, but No. 2 behind Ohio State in the College Football Playoff rankings.
