The move comes in the wake of the death of a primary school student and injury of another when a teacher was reversing her car, with the registration number 26A-054.29, in Vân Hồ Primary School in the northern mountainous province of Sơn La last Thursday. The case has prompted calls for extra classes on swimming in schools. Võ Minh Nhật, 12, and Võ Minh Thông, 10, were found drowned in a lake in the province’s Hương Trà Commune in the mountainous Hương Khê District at around 5pm on Wednesday. Locals commuting past the lake on a nearby path spotted two sets of school uniforms on the bank of the lake but did not see any children. Out of concern, a few of them entered the water, where they discovered the bodies of the children. The children were taken to a local hospital but were declared dead on arrival. Nearby residents said they had seen Nhật and Thông, who were cousins, head towards the lake after school. Under 12-seated cars are allowed to go back to Cát Bà Island. — Photo laodong.com.vn Viet Nam News HẢI PHÒNG — After a five-day ban, under 12-seater cars were allowed to go to Cát Bà Island via Gót-Cái Viềng Ferry in the northern city of Hải Phòng. This was announced by Hoàng Triệu Hùng, deputy director of Hải Phòng City’s Department of Transport. The decision came into effect from Tuesday midnight. Previously, the Hải Phòng People’s Committee had banned all cars to Cát Bà with the intention of building a smoke-free, ecological tourism island. Under the ban, the Gót-Cái Viềng ferry had refused to transport cars to the island. Meanwhile, cars from Quảng Ninh Province via Tuần Châu Ferry are allowed onto the island. Trần Xuân Yến, deputy director of the provincial Department of Education and Training, confessed to police on Wednesday that he had destroyed CDs with scanned images of the multiple choice answer sheets at a local cemetery. Yến was one of five local educational officials prosecuted for interfering with the scores of the high school exam test in the province. According to Tuổi Trẻ (Youth) newspaper, Yến was found to have adjusted scores of multiple-choice tests and increased marks of written literature tests in 13 cases. This is part of the corporation’s efforts to bring railway incidents under control after a string of train accidents left two dead and 11 injured. According to a resolution released early this month, those who work as train drivers or railway barrier guards and those in similar positions will not be allowed to use electronic devices, especially smartphones, during work hours. A steering committee will be set up between June and August to supervise the campaign to ensure railway traffic safety.
