"I am very unhappy at the ongoing situation regarding the bill. This bill should not have happened. We believed the leadership, but they are not trying to understand us. In such a situation, I do not want to participate in such a programme," Barua told PTI. Jean-Eric Vergne wins Autosport award to brighten difficult start to season
(CNN)He may have endured a testing start to his defense of the Formula E championship, but Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne was given a reason to cheer at the Autosport Awards in London. The Frenchman picked up the Moment of the Year award having become the first driver to successfully defend a Formula E title last season. Vergne received the accolade a fortnight after gaining just four points from the opening two races of the season in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, where a steering issue had forced him to retire in the first race. Visit CNN.com/sport for more news, videos and features Really honoured to be awarded. I always looked up to those who received similar awards. Now I realise what it means to be recognised. Routine win keeps Real pressure on Barcelona
Real Madrid moved back to within five points of La Liga leaders Barcelona with a hassle free 3-0 victory over Eibar on Sunday. However, Eibar did most of the damage for them as Paulo Oliveira’s own goal and a goalkeeping mistake from Marko Dmitrovic to allow Marco Asensio’s shot through his grasp handed the European champions a 2-0 half-time lead. Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to pick up FIFA’s ‘The Best’ award in London for his goals in helping Real land a Champions League and La Liga double for the first time in 59 years earlier in the year. Yet, the Portuguese’s off colour La Liga form this season continued as it was Asensio who shone as his partner up front with Karim Benzema rested. Asensio teed up Isco inside two minutes only for Dmitrovic to parry the Spanish international’s tame effort. Real’s defending in the first period left a lot to be desired, but Eibar showed why they have only managed to score three times all season … [Read more...] about Routine win keeps Real pressure on Barcelona
Turkey’s Erdogan to decline Nobel Peace Prize if awarded

PHOTO: ANADOLU AGENCY ISTANBUL: Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday that if he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize he would not accept it. Erdogan’s remarks came after the awarding of the 2019 Nobel Prize in Literature to Peter Handke, an Austrian writer who is accused of denying the 1995 Bosnian genocide. Speaking at an event held on the occasion of Human Rights Day in the capital Ankara, Erdogan said Turkey also would not participate in the Nobel ceremony, saying “awarding such a killer amounts to complicity in oppression.” The president described the Swedish Academy as a foundation which acts politically and ideologically. Handke is known to be a great admirer of former Serbian leader Slobodan Milosevic, who died in 2006 while facing trial in The Hague for war crimes and genocide. “Stand up if you support the Serbs,” Handke wrote … [Read more...] about Turkey’s Erdogan to decline Nobel Peace Prize if awarded
Watch live: Nobel laureates to receive their awards in ceremony clouded in controversy
This year's laureates for the Nobel Prizes in Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, Literature and Economics will receive their awards on Tuesday in a ceremony in Stockholm. The event is being boycotted by Albania and Kosovo which condemned the decision to award the 2019 Literature Prize to Austrian author Peter Handke. He is criticised for being a supporter of the late former Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic. You can watch live in the video player, above, from 16:30 CET. Ahead of the ceremony taking place on Human Rights' Day, Kosovo's Foreign Affairs Minister Behgjet Pacolli said that "today is a shameful day for Europe and humankind". "It shows that Europe has an (sic) amnesia of what happened in Kosovo, Bosnia and Croatia. We have to counter these revisionist attempts," Pacolli added. His Albanian counterpart, Gent Cakaj, confirmed on Twitter on Monday that the country's ambassador to Sweden would not attend the ceremony. "Justification of war atrocities during the Yugoslavia break-up … [Read more...] about Watch live: Nobel laureates to receive their awards in ceremony clouded in controversy
