Workers return to work at industrial and processing zone in Hà Nội following the Tết holiday. — Photo vov.vn Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — As of Thursday, the number of workers returning to work at industrial and processing zones in Hà Nội following the Tết (Lunar New Year) holiday reached 98-99 per cent, VOV online newspaper reported. In industrial zones, such as North Thăng Long (Đông Anh District), Quang Minh (Mê Linh District), and Hanel and Ninh Hiệp (Long Biên District), most workers returned to work by the 6th day of the Lunar New Year. Đinh Quốc Toản, chairman of the Hà Nội Industrial and Processing Zones’ Trade Union, said that although this year the number of days celebrating Tết were fewer than last year, the percentage of workers returning to work after Tết was high due to workers’ stable salaries and preferential policies for employees. With regards to food safety, the agency administered a total administrative sanction worth of VNĐ29.6 billion ($1.3 million) to violators in 14,000 cases and seized some VNĐ20.4 billion ($914,000) of goods. More than 1,500 violations regarding fertiliser were handled, with a large amount of counterfeit fertiliser being destroyed. State rejects ‘fabrication’ in Human Rights Watch report (15-06-2006) HA NOI — The government of Viet Nam rejects a recent report from Human Rights Watch accusing it of mistreating people belonging to ethnic minorities in the Tay Nguyen ( Central Highlands ) region, said Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Le Dung in response to questions by foreign correspondents yesterday. Dung said the group relied on reports based on "sheerly fabricated information," made with the intention of discrediting the government’s policies on ethnic minorities in the region. He said Viet Nam ’s policy was to take an interest in ethnic minority people living in the Tay Nguyen, and to provide incentives to improve the material and spiritual lives of all social strata. Work on the Dung Quat plant has been accelerated along with the construction of several other major energy projects, Dung said during a session of the National Assembly. The 750MW-Ca Mau Power Plant, which is expected to generate electricity in 2008, was put into "test" operation on Saturday. The Son La Hydro-Power station remains on schedule, despite difficulties relocating people to accommodate the dam’s reservoir, according to the Prime Minister.
