President backs hi-tech plans to offset drought

He noted that it is also local authorities’ responsibility to usher in socio-economic development and promote better living conditions. He spoke with provincial leaders and local residents during his visit to the province yesterday. FPT, SBI inject US$3 million into Utop By Van Ly FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh and SBI Chairman Yoshitaka Kitao at the signing ceremony – PHOTO: FPT HANOI – Local tech giant FPT Corporation and Japan’s SBI Holdings have signed a memorandum of understanding to invest US$3 million in a startup called Utop, a source from FPT said. Applying the blockchain technology of FPT, Utop will connect enterprise networks and manage and exchange reward points. Accordingly, Utop will help users accumulate and use reward points in a new and creative way at connected stores and firms. The convenience offered by Utop is expected to upgrade many firms’ operations and help these firms gain a better foothold in the local market. Dr. Phạm Minh Trường, director of the Huế Eye Hospital, was the first Vietnamese doctor and among 15 eye doctors all over the world to be honoured with the title by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB). The Eye Health Heroes initiative recognises and celebrates frontline staff whose work in the field and engagement with the community makes a real difference in restoring sight. A graduate of Huế Medical University in 1987, Dr. Trường started his career at the eye care clinic in Thừa Thiên-Huế Province, which is now the Huế Eye Hospital. I’m a strong advocate of the philosophy of buying the right thing once. My view is for any activity you care about a lot, it’s cheaper in the long run to buy an expensive product that will keep you happy for a great many years – maybe even for a lifetime – than a cheap product you’ll end up wanting to replace a few years down the line. Buy cheap, buy twice, as they say. My hi-fi system is a great example. When I was a lot younger, I splashed out on a Bang & Olufsen hi-fi system that was more than twice the price of everything else I tested. Twenty years on, it now looks like an extraordinarily good value. It’s so old it has a cassette deck (yes, really!), but all it took to bring it back up to date was the addition of a simple Wi-Fi audio receiver to add AirPlay support. Standalone Bluetooth speakers have therefore been of very limited interest to me – and I’d never have dreamed that one could ever replace a proper hi-fi system.
