After 80 years of fighting villains like the Joker and the Riddler, Batman faces his biggest battle yet: the streaming wars. The Dark Knight, Wonder Woman and other Justice Leaguers appearing in DC comic books came under new ownership last year, when AT&T closed on its $85.4 billion acquisition of DC’s parent, Time Warner. And now they must prove their worth to their new bosses in an entertainment universe dominated by streaming. Batman and AT&T joined forces in public for the first time this week at Comic-Con International, the annual comic book convention in San Diego, in an exhibit called “The Batman Experience Powered by AT&T.” With comic book art, vintage video games, movie props and costumes, the exhibit celebrated the character’s 80th year as an American pop-culture staple. The centerpiece was the Dark Knight Dive, But the Dallas-based AT&T had bigger plans when it bought Time Warner, and its HBO properties like “Game of … [Read more...] about Batman and AT&T: A New Dynamic Duo?

I AM looking at the touchscreen of the car I am driving and it is telling me where the nearest car parks are and I press Croy and the sat nav setup prepares to take me directly there. What’s more there is an arrival and departures option with a full timetable – amazing. I may never be late for anything or anyone again. Perhaps it is all less amazing when I say I am sitting in a Porsche surrounded by the full complement of formidable tech that comes as standard with the badge. It would make your eyes water - not so the price. The 2.0 litre Macan SUV retails at £45,915 and its stablemate the 718 Boxster, also with a 2.0-litre engine, comes in at £44,758, prices not that far removed from some of the top of the range cars from the volume brands and for that you get the Porsche badge. The first person I am going to tell is my friend and hairdresser, Julie, who freely admits she is a badge snob. Now she can get all her gear in the boot of the Macan, her kids in … [Read more...] about Porsche 718 Boxster and Macan 2.0-litre SUV – a dynamic duo
Jack Fisher and Damian Forrest used to dread walking the halls of Poudre High School. Not anymore. During their freshman and sophomore years, their Impala basketball team went 5-41. Both were on the varsity team as freshmen and both were starters as sophomores. Last year, the team went 12-13 and earned its first playoff win in a decade. This year, they have already matched last year’s win total and are looking to make a state tournament run the likes of which Poudre hasn’t seen in quite some time. “It used to be you would walk the halls and people would say, ‘Oh you guys are on the 0-13 basketball team,' ’’ Fisher said. “It’s a lot easier walking the halls now that we are winning. No one was coming to the games when we were losing. Now it’s actually a lot more fun to play because we have fans at the games.’’ Fisher and Forrest are the faces of the rise of Poudre basketball. Those early years were rough on the two, … [Read more...] about Meet the dynamic duo who have led Poudre basketball’s rise from the ashes
(CNN)One of the broadest studies of twins in the United States suggests that our genes tend to influence the diseases that afflict us more than where we live, according to research published Monday in the journal Nature Genetics. Using insurance claims data, researchers identified more than 56,000 pairs of twins and estimated the heritability of 560 diseases, finding that nearly a third of the variation in these conditions could be attributed to genetics, on average. Where people grew up was less contributory on the whole. But that still means the majority of the variation we see in human disease is unaccounted for by genetic or ZIP codes. The scientist, the twins and the experiment that geneticists say went too far "The relationship between genetics and environment in disease is incredibly nuanced," said study author Chirag Patel, assistant professor of biomedical informatics at Harvard Medical School. Of the diseases the researchers looked at, 40% had a significant genetic … [Read more...] about Dynamic duos: Why science loves twins
ORCHARD PARK – We refer to it commonly as the golden era of Bills football, that glorious epoch in the early 1990s when Buffalo was the center of the NFL universe and making Super Bowl appearances as frequently as real estate mogul Donald Trump was buying Manhattan property. There was a quarterback named Jim Kelly, and a wide receiver named Andre Reed, and it just seemed like whenever the Bills needed a big play in the passing game, Nos. 12 and 83 were on the same wavelength, their brains and bodies working in perfect harmony. It’s way too early to dare to think Josh Allen and Robert Foster could ever get close to the same ZIP code Buffalo’s all-time greatest pass duo occupied, but it sure has been fun watching the two rookies grow together in 2018. In Sunday’s 14-13 victory over the Lions at New Era Field, Allen completed four of his five intended passes to Foster for 108 yards including the game-winning 42-yard touchdown pass with 10:26 remaining in the … [Read more...] about ‘Stuck on you’: Are Allen and Foster the Bills’ next dynamic duo?
