Ronaldinho says Man City ready for Champions League challenge
BUDAPEST (Reuters) - Former Barcelona and Brazil striker Ronaldinho has backed Pep Guardiola to end his Champions League barren run and win the trophy with Manchester City. Former FIFA player of the year and football World Cup winner Ronaldinho of Brazil listens during an interview with Reuters at the Teqball World Championships in Budapest, Hungary December 6, 2019. REUTERS/Tamas Kaszas “It’s a very difficult competition, but he is a very good coach with a great team at his disposal so they can break through at any moment,” Ronaldinho told Reuters in Budapest, where he was promoting teqball, a hybrid sport mixing football with table tennis. In the three seasons since the Spaniard took over, City won two Premier League titles, and added an FA Cup and League Cup for a domestic treble last season, but have so far failed to crack the European game’s ultimate test. Australian Open 2019: Tearful Former Champ Victoria Azarenka Determined To End Slump
Victoria Azarenka is now out of Australian Open 2019 after 1st round loss. © AFP A despondent Victoria Azarenka has vowed to fight her way out of a career-threatening slump and recapture the form that delivered her two Australian Open titles. The former world number one was dumped from the season-opening Grand Slam in a gut-wrenching loss to little-known German Laura Siegemund late Tuesday after throwing away a one-set lead. Azarenka, 29, wiped away tears as she contemplated the tough battle ahead to return to the top after tumbling down the rankings following the birth of son Leo and a messy custody battle afterwards."I've had injuries before but I've never had slumps before in terms of results," said the Belarusian, who is currently ranked 58 in the world."It's not easy to sit here and be positive but I don't have a choice."Azarenka said she maintained a burning ambition to return to the game's elite and believed hard work was the only way to get there. But the frustrated … [Read more...] about Australian Open 2019: Tearful Former Champ Victoria Azarenka Determined To End Slump
‘Who said Mourinho is in control of Spurs?’ Rose aims apparent dig at Levy
The discussion with Danny Rose had turned towards José Mourinho and how it felt to have a manager of his winning mentality in control at Tottenham. “Who said he’s in control of the club?” Rose shot back. It was late on Wednesday night, in the aftermath of Spurs’s 3-1 Champions League defeat at Bayern Munich and, although Rose did not specify, everybody knew who had the control. It is not Mourinho – rather the chairman, Daniel Levy, with whom it is fair to say Rose has had his differences. Rose said last month that Levy had told him over the summer he would not be given a new contract to replace the one that expires in June 2021. Spurs’s attempts to force the defender out came to nothing and so Rose took a decision: to run down his deal and leave as a free agent. The 29-year-old’s position has not changed – no matter that he is impressed Spurs have been able to attract a manager of Mourinho’s calibre to replace Mauricio … [Read more...] about ‘Who said Mourinho is in control of Spurs?’ Rose aims apparent dig at Levy
