When another mass shooting happens, let alone two in 24 hours, we are all quick to point a finger of blame in any direction but our own. The truth is, we can all do a better job of bridging the divides that exist among us.The disenfranchised, or mentally disturbed, did not become fearful, isolated or angry enough to commit mass killings overnight. It wasn’t the fault of one person or ideology. Too often we ignore the cries of those in distress. Lacking a magic pill, we become disillusioned and immobile. Unfortunately, there is little immobility when it comes to engaging in wars of words. Our leadership must abandon the constant Twitter feuds of hate-filled rhetoric. It is a colossal waste of time, and unbecoming behavior from anyone chosen to lead our country. Candidates for president, or other public offices, must discuss concrete steps, instead of ideologies, for reducing violence in America. We need government leaders who are less concerned about their political survival and … [Read more...] about Who will lead?
WASHINGTON (AP) — White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow is confirming that President Donald Trump "wants to take a look at" buying Greenland, although the semi-autonomous territory of Denmark has said it's not for sale. Kudlow tells "Fox News Sunday" that he won't predict what might happen, but he calls Greenland — which is Greenland is situated between the Atlantic and Arctic oceans — "a strategic place" with "a lot of valuable minerals." The U.S. military has operated for decades from Thule Air Base in Greenland. The northern-most U.S. base is part of the military's global network of radars and other sensors to provide ballistic missile warning and space surveillance. Trump is scheduled to visit Denmark in September as part of a previously announced Europe trip. Copyright © The Associated Press. All rights reserved. PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistani police say a pro-government tribal elder has been killed by a bomb planted in his vehicle in the country's northwest, near the Afghan border. Senior officer Mian Naseeb Jan said Sunday's explosion killed four others and wounded six as they were traveling in the Upper Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. He said the bomb was likely detonated remotely. The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. The mountainous border region was once a stronghold for the Taliban, al-Qaida and other militant groups. Pakistan claims to have driven out the militants in a series of military operations in recent years, but the region still sees occasional attacks. Copyright © The Associated Press.
