Along with strong development, the city’s business community has taken a strong step forward. From 2016 to September 2019, there were 93,000 newly established enterprises, up 22.5% compared to the 2011 – 2015 period. The city has attracted US$20.28 billion in FDI, a 3.24-fold increase against the 2011 – 2015; VND622 trillion (US$26.81 billion) in capital was mobilized from the private sector for development. “The private sector has become a major driving force of Hanoi’s economy, contributing 39% to the GRDP in 2018, up 1.5 percentage points from the 37.5% rate in 2015,” Chung added. Total capital for investment from the private sector in the 2016 – 2018 period reached VND927.88 trillion (US$40 billion), or 36.4% of the GRDP.
