Brought to you by The 1992 Olympic champion is on a mission to reduce the nation’s carbon footprint by getting people back on their bikes Chris Boardman believes that getting people out of their cars and on to two wheels can be done only by “asking the best questions”. Recently, he helped OVO Energy, the UK’s largest independent energy supplier, launch OVO Energy Innovators, a campaign that works with technology and innovation specialists to incubate solutions that encourage greater cycling participation and help reduce the world’s carbon footprint. The 50-year-old, a decorated track and road racer, has always retained his links with the sport. As head of research and development for British Cycling, he worked with Sir Dave Brailsford to design and build the new technologies responsible for British Cycling’s recent successes. In 2017 he accepted the challenge of persuading the people of Greater Manchester to switch from four wheels to two as the authority’s first cycling and walking commissioner. Boardman argues that one of the biggest technology challenges is wrangling data. “I’m a big fan of evidence,” he says. “What’s the pollution like? What’s the bike parking like?
