HCMC – The Hanoi City government in partnership with the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam will organize the Japanese cherry blossom festival in the capital city from March 29 to 31.
Visitors will have a chance to watch and take photos with Japanese cherry blossoms and some special Vietnamese flowers in Ly Thai To Garden in Hoan Kiem District, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
The festival also features many cultural activities such as Japanese tea ceremony, chess, Yosakoi (a unique style of Japanese dance typically performed at festivals and events), and folk games.
There will be about 20 booths serving Japanese and Vietnamese dishes at the Hanoi Children's Palace.
Particularly, a Japan-Vietnam investment and tourism promotion conference will be held on March 29 as part of the festival. The event will gather leading trade and investment organizations like the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Japan External Trade Organization and the Japan National Tourism Organization, local authorities and companies from both countries.
In addition, the organizers will provide free healthcare service to poor patients, donate books as well as health and education equipment, and organize a number of events that help promote cooperation in the fields of education and healthcare between Vietnam and Japan.
The city will for the first time select a Vietnamese ambassador for cherry blossom. Single Vietnamese women above 18 years old living in Hanoi are eligible to bid for the role. The cherry blossom ambassador must be fluent in Japanese, have good knowledge of Japanese and Vietnamese culture, and have a passion for promoting friendship between the two countries.
The Japanese cherry blossom festival aims to introduce the culture of Japan to Hanoians, thus enhancing the relationship between the two countries' peoples and promoting cooperation in multiple fields.
